On Wednesday August 13, 1986 at 6:43 pm Timothy James entered this world in Long Beach Ca.. On Friday February 19, 2016 at 3:33 pm in Bradenton, Fl., we lost Tim to a Fentanyl overdose. Tim was a husband, father, son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle and friend to everyone that knew him.
Tim was all about helping people, always putting the needs of others before himself. At the age of 18 he became an EMT, at 19 he became a Paramedic. He had countless number of life saving awards and was an incredible teacher to new paramedics. I like what one of his co-workers in New York wrote about Tim, " Tims work as a Paramedic will live on through me and everyone else he has worked with and taught".
Which brings me to what I am doing in his name. Tim was all about helping people and I am going to help him continue helping others, this time helping others who suffered like him with this terrible disease of addiction.
In February 2017 I will be running across the state of Florida to raise money for Shatterproof in Tims name. I want to help him continue helping others, after all I know thats what he would have wanted. I know because I am his mother.
On the third Saturday in February for the past 30 years the Florida Cracker Trail Association sets out on their historic ride across the state of Florida. The annual cross-state ride serves to highlight and preserve the importance of Floridas role in the introduction of horses and cattle into the New World. On their 30th anniversary ride I will be going with them. I will be starting my run the day before on Bradenton Beach and meeting up with the group when they start their ride, to finish in Fort Pierce, to make my run a true coast to coast.
WHY, you may ask would I run 150+ miles, to bring attention to the overdose epidemic that is sweeping across our nation. People are really suffering from the disease of Addiction and we NEED to do something about it. Laws need to be changed, our children need to be educated and the individuals that are in the grips of this debilitating disease need help. As I said before Tim was all about helping people. I am running this for him, raising money in his name, telling his story in the hopes that he may be able to help at least one person. If we save even one life it will be worth it.
**I have set up a Face Book page for Tim. If anyone would like to visit the page and meet Tim, leave a message or share a story. This will also be the page with updates on the run.
